Chasing SUB60: The Preparation Begins

Every breakthrough starts long before the starting line. For me, the journey to a SUB60 10K isn’t about one perfect race day—it’s about the months of preparation, planning, and honest accountability leading into the official training block in 2026. This post marks the true beginning.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working with ChatGPT to map out a structured, progressive, and data-driven plan designed specifically to get me under 60 minutes for 10 kilometres. Together, we’ve built a roadmap that balances targeted workouts, gradual volume increases, and sustainable pacing strategies. It’s more than a plan—it’s a framework I’ll measure myself against, adjust from, and learn through.

From now until the formal kickoff of the 2026 program, my running strategy is simple but intentional:

  • Build consistency with regular aerobic runs to strengthen my base.
  • Improve efficiency with controlled strides and light speed play.
  • Track patterns through Garmin Connect to monitor pace, heart rate, recovery, and trendlines.
  • Stay adaptable, staying honest about what’s working and what needs adjusting.

Garmin Connect will be my performance mirror—showing whether I’m tracking ahead, behind, or right on target. The plan sets the tone, but the data will tell the story.

This early phase is all about creating momentum, forming habits, and laying the foundation. SUB60 isn’t just a time goal; it’s a challenge to be the most prepared, disciplined, and informed runner I’ve ever been. And this blog will document every step of that evolution—from preparation to execution, and ultimately, to crossing that finish line under an hour.

The work begins now.
